A.A. Bondy

On the 8th of this month, I went and saw A.A. Bondy at Lincoln Hall. He was on tour for his new album Believers. This was my second time seeing A.A. Bondy. Last time I saw him was exactly two years ago on 11/21/09. He was the opening act for Elvis Perkins, who happens to be the son of Anthony Perkins(He was Norman Bates in Psycho).

A.A. Bondy didn't disappoint and delivered an excellent performance. He is a little odd and a little surly, but that is part of his appeal. His new album is good and he performed his new material well. The highlight of the show though was when he played some tracks from his last album When the Devil's Loose. Check out the  tracks the Mightiest of Guns and Surfer King to get an introduction to his work.

It's a funny world we live in

All the silence is worse than all the violence

It’s so loud inside my head
With words that I should have said!
As I drown in my regrets
I can’t take back the words I never said
I can’t take back the words I never said

I really think the war on terror is a bunch of bullshit
Just a poor excuse for you to use up all your bullets
How much money does it take to really make a full clip
9/11 building 7 did they really pull it
And a bunch of other cover ups
Your child's future was the first to go with budget cuts
If you think that hurts then, wait here comes the uppercut
The school was garbage in the first place, thats on the up and up
Keep you at the bottom but tease you with the uppercrust
You get it then they move you so you never keeping up enough
If you turn on TV all you see’s a bunch of “what the f-cks”
Dude is dating so and so blabbering bout such and such
And that aint Jersey Shore, homie thats the news
And these the same people that supposed to be telling us the truth
Limbaugh is a racist, Glenn Beck is a racist
Gaza strip was getting bombed, Obama didn’t say shit
Thats why I ain't vote for him, next one either
I’m part of the problem, my problem is I’m peaceful
And I believe in the people.

Now you can say it ain't our fault if we never heard it
But if we know better than we probably deserve it
Jihad is not a holy war, wheres that in the worship?
Murdering is not Islam!
And you are not observant
And you are not a muslim
Israel don’t take my side cause look how far you’ve pushed them
Walk with me into the ghetto, this where all the Kush went
Complain about the liquor store but what you drinking liquor for?
Complain about the gloom but when’d you pick a broom up?
Just listening to Pac aint gone make it stop
A rebel in your thoughts, ain't gon make it halt
If you don’t become an actor you’ll never be a factor
Pills with million side effects
Take em when the pains felt
Wash them down with Diet soda!
Killin off your brain cells
Crooked banks around the World
Would gladly give a loan today
So if you ever miss payment
They can take your home away!

I think that all the silence is worse than all the violence
Fear is such a weak emotion that's why I despise it
We scared of almost everything, afraid to even tell the truth
So scared of what you think of me, I’m scared of even telling you
Sometimes I’m like the only person I feel safe to tell it to
I’m locked inside a cell in me, I know that there’s a jail in you
Consider this your bailing out, so take a breath, inhale a few
My screams is finally getting free, my thoughts is finally yelling through

You have to invite me in

Let the Right One In

It has been a few years since I saw this movie but it has stayed with me. I hope to watch it again sometime. It is by far the best movie with vampires in it I have ever seen. Although the movie has vampires in it, this movie is far more than a vampire movie.

Let the Right One In is a story of two “children” who are both lonely for their own reasons. Fundamentally this movie is about friendship. It shows the meaningful exchange when two strangers who have each spent  their lives on the outside looking in, no longer have to feel like outsiders because they have found each other.

Most often I do not notice the mechanics of a movie.  Let the Right One In does some things so well that I couldn’t help but notice. It has an amazing soundtrack. So amazing that after the movie I took the effort to get a copy. The entire score is done by Johan Söderqvist. Amazon.com tells me that the music is performed by the Slovak National Symphony Orchestra. One track in particular, “The Father”, has earned a place on my songs to study to playlist. That playlist is comprised of only songs that I feel I can listen to over and over without getting bored. Another great mechanics piece of the movies is the color tone. It is mostly blue and gray and fits the movie so well. There are some amazing images in this movie.

In the end, I suggest you watch this movie. It is not a horror movie or a vampire movie but does have those elements. Anyone who remembers the dynamics of jr. high school should appreciate this film. As a final thought, if you are too close-minded to watch a foreign movie, there is an American remake, Let Me In, but I hope you try the original.

To know you is hard

I'm coming up only to hold you under
I'm coming up only to show you wrong
And to know you is hard and we wonder
To know you all wrong, we were
Ooh, ooh

Really too late to call, so we wait for
Morning to wake you; it's all we got
To know me as hardly golden
Is to know me all wrong, they were

At every occasion I'll be ready for a funeral
At every occasion once more is called a funeral
Every occasion I'm ready for the funeral
At every occasion one brilliant day funeral

I'm coming up only to show you down for
I'm coming up only to show you wrong
To the outside, the dead leaves, they all blow
Before they died had trees to hang their hope
Ooh, ooh

At every occasion I'll be ready for the funeral
At every occasion once more is called the funeral
At every occasion I'm ready for the funeral
At every occasion one brilliant day funeral

I really like this version
